History in Asia

Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Company established its first sales office in Shanghai in 1933. The company expanded its commitment to the region with new sales offices in major northern cities until World War II temporarily forced it to close those offices.

Despite the great turmoil created by an international conflict, the company was able to honor its commitments to policyholders due to the heroic efforts of agent Tsufa Lee.

His work to hide (and later recover) policyholder documents resulted in Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Company being able to honor and pay its claims to policyholders in China.

Since those early years, Transamerica companies have continued to serve Asian communities. Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Company has conducted business in Hong Kong since 1947, and has had a full-service branch office in Hong Kong since 1993. In 2005, Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Company became the first newly licensed life insurance company in Singapore in 14 years.

Transamerica Life Bermuda is committed to following this great tradition, providing financial protection products and unparalleled service to the Asian community.
